How to be involved
At this stage participants (age 1-50 yrs) for this project are only recruited from Clinical Professor Shyan Vijayasekaran and Dr George Sim’s Paediatric ENT theatre lists. If you or your child are booked to have an operation with either of those clinicians and would like more information on WAERP, please refer to the Contact Details section.
How are samples taken?
Both cell samples (tracheal and/or nasal) and blood samples are taken whilst the participant is under general anaesthetic, by the clinician and attending anaesthetist.
What age do you need to be to participate?
We will only approach patients of the clinicians who are between 1 and 50 years of age.
Where do Telethon staff approach people to participate in WAERP?
You will only see Telethon staff on site at St John of God Hospital Subiaco.
How long is the project running for?
The study will run over the course of 12 years (2016-2028).
Does WAERP have ethics approval?
Yes. WAERP has ethics approval from St John of God Hospital (SJOGH) Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC). Any amendments to the project, documentation or processes must be submitted and by SJOGH HREC.
Is there any follow up required?
Once participants have completed the online consent form and short questionnaire, there is no further samples required or any further communication with Telethon staff. Participants/guardians will receive an email with a copy of their completed consent form and a copy of their allergy results from WAERP study staff.
