Why philanthropic support matters
Respiratory illness is one of the most significant health burdens facing Australian children. Around one million children in Australia live with serious respiratory diseases, and more than 110,000 of these children are in WA. These illnesses are the leading cause of hospital admissions for children under four, accounting for 30% of all childhood hospitalisations.
Research at this scale demands more than government funding alone can provide. Philanthropic support enables Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre to pursue innovative science, seeding new ideas, backing emerging researchers, and sustaining the long-term studies with the power to produce real-world change.
A Powerhouse Partnership
The powerhouse partnership between The Kids Research Institute Australia, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and Perth Children’s Hospital enables the Centre to undertake world leading paediatric respiratory research in Australia and improve the lives of children with respiratory conditions and their families.

Supporters
Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre exists because of the people and organisations that believe in it. The generous support of our philanthropic partners makes our research possible, funding our people, infrastructure, and discoveries that would not otherwise exist. We are deeply grateful for their ongoing commitment to our work.
