Powerhouse partnership

The Kids Research Institute Australia, Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation and Perth Children’s Hospital have formed a strategic partnership to support the establishment and operation of the Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre, advancing Western Australia as the global epicentre of world-leading collaborative and multidisciplinary paediatric respiratory research informing advancements in clinical practice.

By establishing the Wal-yan Respiratory Research Centre, we are leveraging the unique strengths of each of the partner organisations and combining these strengths to create an entity that will lead paediatric respiratory research in Australia.

Experience and expertise at The Kids and Perth Children’s Hospital has shown that integrated multi-disciplinary clinical research is the key to translating research discoveries into genuine benefits for child health.

The Kids Research Institute Australia

The Kids Research Institute Australia is based within the Perth Children’s Hospital, and is one of the largest, and most successful medical research institutes in Australia, comprising a dedicated and diverse team of more than 750 staff and students.

We've created a bold blueprint that brings together community, researchers, practitioners, policy makers and funders, who share our vision to improve the health and development of children through excellence in research, and the application of that knowledge.

The Institute is headed by leading paediatrician and infectious diseases expert Professor Jonathan Carapetis, with Founding Director Professor Fiona Stanley now Patron.

The Kids is independent and not-for-profit. The majority of funding comes from our success in winning national and international competitive research grants. We also receive significant philanthropic support from corporate Australia and the community.

Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation

The Perth Children’s Hospital Foundation is helping to transform the health care of WA’s sick children and young people so they can live their healthiest and happiest lives.

The Foundation led by CEO, Carrick Robinson, with the Hon. Ian Campbell as Chairman is the largest funder of Perth Children’s Hospital (PCH) and the wider Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS) after government. In the last 24 years we’ve contributed over $83 million with a further $25 million committed over the next five years.

With the help of our generous donors, corporate partners and volunteers, our efforts ensure that WA sick kids and young people continue to receive world class paediatric care that comes from;

innovative education and training programs
the expertise of highly trained experts from Australia and around the world; and

Perth Children’s Hospital

Perth Children’s Hospital is Western Australia’s only dedicated paediatric hospital and provides tertiary services for the State. The 298 bed hospital provides inpatient, ambulatory and outpatient services. PCH is also the home of WA’s only paediatric trauma centre, the State’s first intraoperative magnetic resonance imaging machine and the Stan Perron Immunisation Centre, which is available to all children and families attending the hospital to help them stay up to date with their scheduled immunisations.

Led by Chief Executive, Dr Aresh Anwar, and Board Chair, Debbie Karasinski AM, Perth Children’s Hospital is one of four services provided by the Child and Adolescent Health Service (CAHS), along with Neonatology, Community Health and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services. CAHS provides a comprehensive service that supports the health, wellbeing and development of Western Australians from birth through to adulthood.
